At the heart of every great community is a team of dedicated individuals who go above and beyond to ensure safety and support. In Lafayette, that team includes the brave firefighters—and the unsung heroes behind them: the Wissota Firefighters' Auxiliary.
The Wissota Firefighters' Auxiliary is a specialized unit dedicated to the well-being and recovery of firefighters during and after emergency responses. This dedicated group provides critical support by offering a safe space for firefighters to rest, rehydrate, and recuperate after battling fires or responding to high-stress incidents. Their efforts help ensure that firefighters and other first responders remain physically and mentally fit to continue their work.
The Rehab Team members are trained in basic first aid, hydration protocols, and recovery techniques, and are equipped with essential supplies such as water, snacks, medical equipment, and cooling systems to assist firefighters in regaining their strength and stamina. They play an important role in preventing heat-related illnesses, dehydration, and fatigue, ensuring that responders are fit for duty throughout an emergency.
While they do not directly engage in firefighting, the Auxiliary’s Rehab Team is a crucial component of the department’s operations, providing essential support and care to those who risk their lives in the line of duty. The team’s members are passionate volunteers who are committed to the safety and health of the Chippewa Fire District firefighters, demonstrating teamwork, compassion, and dedication to the community.
